Keep your dog cool with the right drinking accessories

On warm summer days, you’ll notice it right away: your dog pants more, seeks shade, and has less energy. Just like us, dogs need extra hydration to cool down. But how do you make sure your dog drinks enough? In this article, you'll learn why hydration is so important, how to spot signs of heat stress, and which Savic drinking accessories can help in different situations.
Why is water so important for dogs in summer?
Dogs don’t sweat like humans. They cool themselves mainly by panting and, to a lesser extent, through their paw pads. This makes it harder for them to release excess heat, especially in warm weather.
Even from 15°C (59°F), dogs can start to struggle with the heat — especially in full sun and no wind. If your dog’s body gets too warm, it can become dangerous for their health if not addressed quickly.
Warning signs of heat stress or dehydration:
- Heavy panting and drooling
- Lethargy or slow movements
- Loss of appetite or vomiting
- Hot to the touch, red gums
- Dark yellow urine or less frequent peeing
Some dogs are more sensitive to heat, like flat-faced breeds, puppies, older dogs, or those with thick fur or extra weight.

What to do if your dog seems too hot?
- Move your dog to a shady and cool place immediately
- Cool gently with lukewarm water, especially on head, belly, paws, groin and ears (avoid ice-cold water!)
- Use a fan or car AC to help them cool down
- Offer small amounts of water to drink (only if your dog is alert)
- If in doubt, always contact your vet
